Well spent October …

I think I should stop promising to keep writing more every time I write a post here after a long time. So straight to the subject, it’s been a good month in terms of accomplishing the plans I’d for the month.

Even though I participated in Hacktoberfest last year, I wanted to do an event this year to spread the word and joy of open source contribution to more people. Some cool kids at Rajiv Gandhi Insitute of Technology, Kottayam was kind enough to invite me to take a session there. We had fun! šŸ™‚ You can download the slides here.

Secondly, I wanted to fix some minor issues in the ml.reactjs.org repository which I’m maintaining. It’s a Malayalam Translation project of reactjs.org Docs. My motivation for taking this up and how to get started with contributing to the project is something I will post separately. I wanted to fix it by the first week so that I can attract more contributors to the project (#Hacktoberfest). I just fixed it so will have to organically bring in new contributors and onboard them to the project.

And that’s something I’m gonna dig deeper next, i.e, how to attract new contributors to open source projects and convert a decent percentage of them to stay active.
